Fun Fact Friday

In the 16th Century, Arab women could initiate a divorce if their husbands didn’t pour coffee for them.

Today, this would be unheard of. However, back then, coffee was an integral part of Turkish society. So much so, that it was ‘grounds’ for divorce. No one knows why exactly this was acceptable, but the fact remains that it was!

Knowing what i’m like first thing in the morning before a coffee, my husband has learnt over the years to hand me a coffee with a long pole attached before I become human, so I can relate to the Arab women from the 16th Century on some level. I wonder if this would form grounds for divorce as part of unreasonable behaviour in Western society? I don’t intend to try though, because my husband has me figured out.

Coffee clearly has a lot to answer for.
