Our Capacity to Think and Reason

What does this mean?

The analytical mind is the thinking part of our brains which deals with complex decision-making, critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-motivating.

This part of our mind enables us to take a step back and consider, ‘What should I think here?’ or ‘What’s the best thing to do here?’

This is a crucial function of a healthy mind. However, it’s also not the only function. There are times where it can actually be more useful to quieten down the analytical mind.

At times, being too analytical or too rational prevents us from accessing other mental resources.

You will not find an answer for everything

The analytical mind focuses on asking questions and looking for answers. This works well, except when we find ourselves constantly ruminating over questions that we can’t find the answer to.

It’s essential that we don’t get too caught up in looking for answers to everything that happens to us. There are some things we can’t know – and some things that are actually irrelevant, and they don’t serve any purpose to know.

If we have questions that are unanswerable, or if the answers don’t affect the way you live your life, then it’s most often not something worth stressing over.

It limits your spontaneity and creativity

When we’re using our analytical minds, it can often get in the way of spontaneity and creativity. We’re not letting ourselves ‘go with the flow’, but instead hesitating and second-guessing ourselves.

Analytical minds are constantly finding ways to make things better
